Favorite iPhone app: Shapely

When I purchased my first iphone, I knew it would change my life. The great thing about it, the iphone continues to delight me to this day, with new apps and updates. The Shapely app was actually created and developed right here in Kansas City, by a wife and husband duo, Becca and Chris Jones. You can read more about their journey on their blog: Before and After Brookside. This app is pretty amazing. It lets you create logos and enhance images with shapes, text and additional shapes. I have only used it a few times, but I have so many ideas of how I can create more with it. To learn more about the app, check out their web site here.

Here is one I created of Leila when she was playing in the snow a couple of weeks ago. She is so cute, its hard not to use her as my model. Another fun feature within the app is changing the texture of the image. On this one I used paper, so it looks like it was actually printed on a card stock.

This is one of the first screens in the app, where you select the shape. You can upgrade and buy the full version for $1.99 to get even more shapes.

In this screen you can select the color/pattern of the border, as well as the actual background image/pattern/color.

This is the screen of my gallery. As you can see, I created one for the holidays using one of the patterns provided within the app.

At the end of your creation it has options to share on all the social channels, making it easy to spread your creation among your friends. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Au revoir,
Jamie

Favorite Thing: The Culinary Center of Kansas City

Have you ever taken a class at The Culinary Center of Kansas City? It’s one of the best date nights my husband and I have had. At the center, you can take cooking classes, do team building activities, pick up one of their dinner’s on demand, use it as a unique event space, enjoy their staff lunch or shop in their gift shop.

I gave my husband a gift certificate to go to any class he wanted to – we ended up attending the origin of tapas class which actually was a four-course sit down dinner where they showed you how to make one of the courses. We also received the recipes for the entire meal!

My other favorite thing at the center is their monthly Tuesday staff lunch. The staff makes a special lunch first Tuesday of every month. It’s $12 and includes an entree, salad, side, dessert and tea or water. They typically post the menu a week out and it’s always themed. Be prepared because it’s always packed and you might have to wait for a seat!

Be sure to check out their class schedule, the staff lunch and their website.

Let me know if you take a class and which one! I really want to take their sushi making class (of course after the baby so I can enjoy it!).

Enjoy,

Ellen

Favorite Thing: Succotash KC

Brunch is one of my favorite meals. I dont know if it has anything to do with the fact it usually happend on the weekends and you can take naps after, but I still think its great. One of my favorite spots in Kansas City is Succotash. They moved locations, to a great spot located on Holmes, very close to Hallmark and Crown Center. The interior is retro fun, with lots of great colors and quirky wall art.

They support local farmers and vendors and strive to use natural ingredients whenever possible. I especially love that they serve espresso, as it is hard to find a great brunch location that does. If you are a juicer, you are also in luck. They have a variety of fresh juice including fresh pressed orange juice. The brunch menu ranges from salads, breakfast sandwiches, omelets and pancakes & such. I have never had a bad meal here – it is always amazing! Check out their menu for more details on all that they have to offer.

Au revior,
Jamie
